Portrait of a Young Man with Light Blue Eyes
This is a portrait of a young man with light blue eyes. The man’s face was sketched with a pen using loose lines to establish placement and proportions of facial features and an outline of the hair. Shades of grey markers were used to develop shadows and add form to the face. Darker shadows appear along the brow, inset eyes, mouth, lips and under the chin and neck. Pink and yellow oil pastels are relegated to the skin of the face to keep focus and create unique stylistic elements that add interest to the composition. The eyes are colored with light blue oil pastel. White oil pastel is used to accentuate highlights around the face and draw the unique stylistic energy of the yellow throughout the portrait by mirroring the line weight. The young man gazes gently forward toward the viewer.
