Abstract Face of Intersecting Growths
This is an abstract drawing of a face with intersecting growths. A variety of mediums were used to sketch the initial drawing of the face, including overlapping layers of colored pencils, markers, oil pastels, pens and white paint marker. The colors, shapes and lines are added and subtracted by using the white paint marker to camouflage opaque mediums against the white acrylic gesso paper. Intersecting and overlapping forms are built organically in an abstract manner while the eyes, nose and mouth help to ground the abstraction in a recognizable image. Watercolors are used to blend and connect disparate parts of the image together and unify the face with the surrounding structures. There is a slightly sad expression in the light blue eyes as the subject gazes longingly past the viewer, which allows for an approachable viewing experience to take in the details of an unusual looking face.
