This artwork is a portrait drawing of a bearded man with his eyes closed. Colored pencil was used to sketch the initial face and establish proportions and placement of all facial features. Black marker pushes the dark creases and shadows back into the composition, while a thick white paint marker accentuates highlighted areas and brings them forward from the 184 lb. toned blue paper. The black marker seeps through the white paint marker in a few areas to create a translucent, bluish appearance. The overall portrait drawing maintains a loosely sketched presence and draws attention to the detailed areas, notably the creases in the skin around the eyes and brow, and the hair of the mustache and beard.
