Portrait of a Young Man with a Beard on Blue

This artwork is a drawing of a young man with a beard on blue construction paper. The drawing started as a pen sketch detailing the eyes, eyebrows and eyelashes. A minimal amount of pen was used to determine the placement of the nostrils, mouth and suggestions of the mustache and beard around his face. Light and medium grey markers were used to create subtle shading and shadows around the eyes, nose and mouth. A white gel pen was used to add highlights to the eyes and line the irises. The young man looks forward to the viewer with dilated pupils suggestive of dim light. His relaxed expression invites the viewer to gaze back into the young man’s eyes, scanning to his nose, mouth, and back to his eyes.
